It wasn’t too long after yesterday’s post hit

It wasn’t too long after yesterday’s post hit the airwaves that it became abundantly clear just how much the return of rugby means to so many people — and not just the boys either

Such was the embracing of the post that I felt a little like the scrum half who had just been poleaxed by a front row forward

Sad that it is only a one week “season” and we have to wait a few weeks before things kick off in earnest again — but please hang on to that enthusiasm as we will be back as soon as we can

Despite rain of biblical proportions being dumped

Despite rain of biblical proportions being dumped over much of NSW in the 36 hours from late Thursday we did manage to get a couple of trial games of rugby under the belt yesterday, albeit on the synthetic pitch of the Eastern Suburbs District RUFC

Three scratch matches v Cranbrook took the place of the annual Scots’ 7’s tournament with the rules being altered to allow a bit of line out and scrum practice; no conversions nor penalty kicks; not sure if anyone kept the scores either. Just a bit of fun for the boys ahead of the term break

And you wouldn’t believe it but the games were played in almost perfect conditions — wonderful blue skies, little breeze, and a temperature that was, given it was only the first hit out of the season, probably a touch on the warm side

It was a good workout for the bloke behind the camera too. His trigger finger was a bit rusty early and was seen struggling to keep up with the action as he pounded along the sideline. He’s probably a touch sore today after that workout but still a few weeks to go before things get serious which will, hopefully, enable him to fine tune the old body in readiness for some real action

We sat in front of the computer and uploaded all the images we have produced since around the middle of January to our website

You can find all of these on the peterwade.photography website — any of the above played on or after 16 February can be found under the RECENT SHOOTS tab. The rest (aka those that were made in January and before February 16) can best be located by heading to the IMAGE SEARCH tab and inserting the appropriate keywords (e.g. basketball, 1sts, Riverview etc). I know this is clunky but the soon to be released new website deals with the issue and it should be easier to find images once that is released. If that doesn’t work please use the GALLERY tab or hit me up for help

Which all means we are, finally, up to date and back on track — that should allow me to finish off the website which, with a bit of luck, might be let out of its cage just in time for Term 2 to kick off in May

Today some images from our time spent at the Australian Rowing Championships last weekend

Crews seemed to have come from everywhere; there were school events, club events, interstate events, Olympic events — all of which culminated with the races for the King’s Cup and the Queen Elizabeth II Cup (both won by Victoria)

A long week for everyone but a cracking regatta to finish off the rowing season

Absolutely delighted to hear this week that six of the Premiership winning 1st XI were selected for the Combined GPS cricket team

There were batsmen, bowlers, and all - rounders; there were ton scorers (or nearly were!); there were those who snagged five fors; there were some who could bat and bowl; some who made runs when they were in the side for their bowling; but all of them are not only excellent cricketers, they are, more importantly, thoroughly decent young men

So to Will, Robbo, Snow, Bennie, Toby and Pup my cameras and I congratulate you

Tomorrow it’s out to Penrith bright and early — the weather forecast is for some strong winds suggesting the course may be a touch choppy, conditions that could produce some interesting photos given a lot of sculling events are scheduled

Around a month ago the basketballers played Riverv

Around a month ago the basketballers played Riverview on a Friday night, an unusual occurrence that enabled me to move my Saturday cricket commitments to the morning session, and after some time — and much badgering — head to the St Ignatius’ tennis courts in the afternoon

Tennis was one of the first sports that got me into this caper as #1 son was (actually still is!) an absolute fanatic — and rarely was there a weekend when he wasn’t playing for school or in a tournament of some description. He finished HSC in 2017 and, since then, I haven’t had many opportunities to point my lens at a tennis player

Hopefully my rustiness (and that of the cyclone fence through which I had to shoot!) doesn’t show in today’s post

Wrapping up the rowing for the moment with today’s post being a few more from Saturday’s Head of the River at Penrith. I will be heading west again on both Thursday and Sunday and will hopefully return home with a few more photos of those schools competing in The Australian Championships; if not, there will still be plenty of other action across both days to keep me busy

I was reminded when crossing the street a couple of days ago that I still haven’t posted any of the tennis photos from the afternoon I spent at Riverview a few weeks back. Apologies to those tennis players who have been waiting to see themselves in action; I hope to rectify that over the next day or so

With the rowing of the 127th AAGPS Head of the Riv

With the rowing of the 127th AAGPS Head of the River yesterday — won by St Joseph’s College with Shore and King’s in hot pursuit — the summer sport season is now officially over

But, with the Australian Rowing Championships being held at SIRC this week, no doubt a number of the rowers will likely find themselves heading out to Penrith again before they can swap their zoots for winter sport gear

It’s been a long term for me and I must admit to being completely knackered and looking forward to catching up on a lot of stuff that should have been finished ages ago — e.g. uploading all images from this year to what will, hopefully, be a new website. Did I hear you say that it is about bloody time? — and taking a few deep breaths before it starts once again

Having said that I, too, will be making the schlepp out to Penrith on a couple of days — the results of which will likely end up on these pages
