Well that is pretty much it from me as far as Term

Well that is pretty much it from me as far as Term 1, 2023 sport is concerned
But isn’t there some rowing taking place on Saturday? Yes, but unfortunately I am not involved this year.

Unfortunate to say the least, but this year I will be watching from afar (very far) rather than humping my kit out to Penrith and working up a sweat. It’s just that something came up which, at the time, sounded like a good idea — let’s leave it at that, eh?

So, to finish off the term, some more from my time spent at Gladesville in the boat shed and on the water. They were sessions I thoroughly enjoyed despite being drowned by a late afternoon Sydney thunderstorm and, along with the entire 2nd crew and their coach, almost being drowned (as in the more common usage of the word) by a tsunami — courtesy of a Sydney Ferry skipper — that would not have been out of place in Nazare, Portugal

I am disappointed not to be there this Saturday to record whatever history it is that is made but best wishes and good luck to all the crews — thanks for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your preparation for the big race

It’s just about time for us to close the books o

It’s just about time for us to close the books on term 1 — and the 2022/23 summer sport season. Just a couple more posts to go before we turn our (literally) focus to winter sport — and running around in the rain, mud coming over the top of our boots and burly forwards nailing us as we try to get closer to the action; hard not to be excited

Today we have a few more from last Saturday’s action vs Grammar, including one that features the leader in the race to win the award for the haircut of the year. Nice one Neddy!

The good news is (not sure how!) I finished my photo edits earlier than usual today, something which allowed me time to upload all images from last weekend to the website ahead of schedule

Maybe the weather Gods know that summer sport all but finished this past weekend

What was a hot, sweaty couple of days has now turned much cooler – we have a breeze, it’s cloudy and there is some rain in the forecast. Reckon they might be preparing us for winter sport trials already?

Today’s offering is a bit of a mash up from across the three (summer sport) games we photographed on Saturday vs Sydney Grammar. Scots came away victorious in both basketball games (albeit after the 1sts had a bit of a scare); whilst the cricketers, after initially looking like they might run through the Grammar batting, were unable to break a big fourth wicket stand and so finished their season with a loss

And so it came to pass that, after 14 rounds of co

And so it came to pass that, after 14 rounds of competition, the 2022/23 GPS Summer Sport season is now over

Congratulations to Newington 1sts for not only winning the basketball Premiership but also going through the season undefeated. The Newington 2nds were crowned Premiers as well — last week’s game against Scots was critical for both schools and their victory over Scots ensured they won the flag with Scots finishing 2nd

In the cricket, King’s had to settle for being joint Premiers with Joey’s after losing to them yesterday; King’s 2nd XI were Premiers and also went through the season undefeated

And, as they say, that’s all she wrote! But hang around as we will be posting images from Round 14 as of today — and also doing so over the remainder of the week

It may be the last round of summer sport tomorrow

It may be the last round of summer sport tomorrow but for the rowers the final countdown is only just beginning

A week of tapering, fine tuning, and keeping everything ticking over lies ahead as we count down to the Head of the River on March 25

As regular viewers of my feed will have observed, over the past month or so I have been privileged to be able to spend a fair amount of time at the boat shed with both the boys and their coaches. An enormous amount of fun for me — not to mention an enormous number of frames as well! — but, for those involved with the rowing program, an enormous amount of hard work that has been ongoing since at least last October

Whatever the outcome may be thank you for giving me the opportunity to be involved; hopefully my images are a good representation of what goes on in the boat shed and the amount of effort that has been expended by all concerned as they prepare for their big day

Two more sleeps and one more round — which means

Two more sleeps and one more round — which means Saturday will be a sad day for those who will be playing the last game of their chosen summer sport

Hopefully there are plenty of wonderful memories to be packed into their kit bags as they leave the playing field for the last time and head home

As I type this I am in the boat shed having spent

As I type this I am in the boat shed having spent the last couple of hours photographing the 1st VIII as they prepare for Saturday week’s Head of the River

Despite the weather forecast we were fortunate to avoid any rain - it is, however, tumbling down now as I prepare to head home

I am still wet through, however, as I did manage to find the only wet patch in the coach’s tinny in which to sit during the session

Really looking forward to changing my shorts in 40 minutes or so!

No rowing images, as yet, to post tonight but instead a few more from last Saturday’s round vs Newington will have to do
