I’d heard the waves might have whipped up a touc I’d heard the waves might have whipped up a touch so I wandered down to Bronte

I think I took a wrong turn and ended up in Hawaii or Tahiti. Whipped up a touch?

The beaches were closed but only six (foolhardy?) surfers were braving the elements and, after being forced to head half way to NZ to do so, trying to jump on board the monsters that had appeared overnight

Hard work getting beyond the beach let alone the kilometre or more they had to paddle just to reach where the waves were

And, if they were lucky enough to get on one, that’s when the fun really started

Try outrunning a wall of water that has one thing in mind — dumping you!
Once again I wandered down to Tamarama in the hope Once again I wandered down to Tamarama in the hope that I might see better water conditions than those on the weekend; unfortunately it was not to be

The beaches were closed — and the waves, whilst bigger, were rather ordinary

And as if to underline the futility of my journey there were only about a dozen intrepid souls who had taken to the water

Perhaps tomorrow?
Unfortunately the weather gods delivered plenty of Unfortunately the weather gods delivered plenty of sunshine over the weekend but not the surf that was conducive to either surfing or photography; hopefully things might change by the end of the week

That being the case there wasn’t anything new that I had to post so I have dipped into the Tamarama images I produced a couple of weeks ago for today’s offering
It’s Friday — and that means it’s the WEEEGE It’s Friday — and that means it’s the WEEEGEND

The forecast is for some pretty good summer weather so, with a modicum of luck, that should make for plenty of activity both on the beach (socially distanced of course) and in the water

And, hopefully, an opportunity to get down and create a few more images like these!
After waxing lyrical about my new toy yesterday I After waxing lyrical about my new toy yesterday I was asked by a number of people what it was that I had added to my camera bag; fair question, I guess

For the past three years I have been hauling around a Canon 100 - 400 4.5 - 5.6. Wonderful lens but I was feeling it was no longer appropriate for my needs — particularly late on a winter afternoon shooting rugby when I require an ability to access as much light as possible; time to move on

So whilst having a pre - Christmas coffee with my mentor (you know who you are!) I asked what lens he would suggest as a potential replacement…and his suggestion was the Canon EF 400 f2.8L IS III USM

Two days later I picked up my Christmas present to myself

This post is again from last week’s session at Tamarama and will (even if today’s images are a little samey!), I trust, show why I cannot wait to get back out in the heat and rain once more. Now I just need to find some sport to photograph

Hopefully only 17 sleeps to go
Prior to Christmas I picked up a new toy — then Prior to Christmas I picked up a new toy — then everything went to pot and there wasn’t much opportunity to use it

Fast forward to last week and finally the planets aligned — not that the surf was great but at least there was reason to grab the lens and head out to see what it could do

And, having done that, I am so excited I can hardly wait for the new school term to begin, strap it on and start using it every week!
Today’s images from the Easts Basketball League Today’s images from the Easts Basketball League 16 B Final from December featuring Triple Threat Blues up against the Raiders

Lots of action in a very competitive game — and with both sides playing some seriously final-worthy basketball
A few more from across the EBL Finals played in De A few more from across the EBL Finals played in December

All of which go to prove that it doesn’t matter whether you are young or old the basics of the game remain the same
The EBL competition caters for players across mult The EBL competition caters for players across multiple age groups ranging from the Under 8’s through to Adults — more than 1,400 players competing across 42 weeks of the year; 20 Divisions and approximately 200 teams; and, in addition to the weekly competitions, EBL runs School Holiday Camps and Learn to Play programs. A serious member of the both the local community and the broader Australian basketball world

And early in December it was my task to cover matches being played on the same day, over three venues and featuring teams ranging in age from 18 year olds down to the Under 10’s

Significantly different skill sets but all displaying the same degree of passion for the game
