Maybe the weather Gods know that summer sport all but finished this past weekend

What was a hot, sweaty couple of days has now turned much cooler – we have a breeze, it’s cloudy and there is some rain in the forecast. Reckon they might be preparing us for winter sport trials already?

Today’s offering is a bit of a mash up from across the three (summer sport) games we photographed on Saturday vs Sydney Grammar. Scots came away victorious in both basketball games (albeit after the 1sts had a bit of a scare); whilst the cricketers, after initially looking like they might run through the Grammar batting, were unable to break a big fourth wicket stand and so finished their season with a loss

And so it came to pass that, after 14 rounds of co

And so it came to pass that, after 14 rounds of competition, the 2022/23 GPS Summer Sport season is now over

Congratulations to Newington 1sts for not only winning the basketball Premiership but also going through the season undefeated. The Newington 2nds were crowned Premiers as well — last week’s game against Scots was critical for both schools and their victory over Scots ensured they won the flag with Scots finishing 2nd

In the cricket, King’s had to settle for being joint Premiers with Joey’s after losing to them yesterday; King’s 2nd XI were Premiers and also went through the season undefeated

And, as they say, that’s all she wrote! But hang around as we will be posting images from Round 14 as of today — and also doing so over the remainder of the week

It may be the last round of summer sport tomorrow

It may be the last round of summer sport tomorrow but for the rowers the final countdown is only just beginning

A week of tapering, fine tuning, and keeping everything ticking over lies ahead as we count down to the Head of the River on March 25

As regular viewers of my feed will have observed, over the past month or so I have been privileged to be able to spend a fair amount of time at the boat shed with both the boys and their coaches. An enormous amount of fun for me — not to mention an enormous number of frames as well! — but, for those involved with the rowing program, an enormous amount of hard work that has been ongoing since at least last October

Whatever the outcome may be thank you for giving me the opportunity to be involved; hopefully my images are a good representation of what goes on in the boat shed and the amount of effort that has been expended by all concerned as they prepare for their big day

Two more sleeps and one more round — which means

Two more sleeps and one more round — which means Saturday will be a sad day for those who will be playing the last game of their chosen summer sport

Hopefully there are plenty of wonderful memories to be packed into their kit bags as they leave the playing field for the last time and head home

A few more today from last week’s matches vs Newington

As I type this I am in the boat shed having spent

As I type this I am in the boat shed having spent the last couple of hours photographing the 1st VIII as they prepare for Saturday week’s Head of the River

Despite the weather forecast we were fortunate to avoid any rain - it is, however, tumbling down now as I prepare to head home

I am still wet through, however, as I did manage to find the only wet patch in the coach’s tinny in which to sit during the session

Really looking forward to changing my shorts in 40 minutes or so!

No rowing images, as yet, to post tonight but instead a few more from last Saturday’s round vs Newington will have to do

It was standing room only in the Lion’s Den when

It was standing room only in the Lion’s Den when the Scots’ 2nds basketball team took on Newington last Saturday

And befitting a big crowd it turned out to be a big game with the result being in doubt until the last few minutes

In the end it was a win to Newington — which meant they took home the 2022/23 Premiership — but neither side really deserved to lose on the day

Lots of noise; lots of fun; lots of great basketball

And for good measure — and to keep the 1st XI happy (they didn’t get much airtime last week) — a few from the cricket where Scots went home the victors

As our last post foreshadowed yesterday’s round

As our last post foreshadowed yesterday’s round against Newington was a cracker — in particular, the 2nds basketball where the Premiership was potentially up for grabs

And whilst Newington won — and, therefore, now have both hands on the cup (or is it a shield?) with one match still to play — it was an epic battle with each side a chance to get the W until the latter stages of the contest. Final score 58 52

The 1sts wasn’t too shabby either but Newington categorically showed why they are the best team in the competition. At various points in the match Scots gave them a run for their money but whenever they managed to draw within striking distance Newington found another gear

In the cricket Scots defeated Newington who, after being set a target of 251, were unable to put together the necessary runs

Tomorrow it’s the penultimate round of the Summe

Tomorrow it’s the penultimate round of the Summer sport season — with Scots playing their last home game

For the basketballers the round against Newington could hardly be any bigger. The 1sts take on the already crowned 2022/23 Premiers; for the 2nds a win will put them into equal first heading into the last week, but should they lose Newington take home that Premiership as well

Lots of home support to cheer on the boys is needed in the Lion’s Den - 2nds tip off at 10; the 1sts immediately after that game concludes. So, as Jack Little used to say, “BE THERE!!!”
