Last Sunday I found myself out at the Sydney Inter

Last Sunday I found myself out at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith photographing the NSW Masters Rowing Championships for @rowingnsw

A stunning blue sky for this time of year but a howling wind that produced white caps on the course and, when combined with the wind chill, made it all a touch unpleasant for those trying to qualify for the Australian Masters in a few weeks

Consequently a number of events were cancelled or postponed — a few scullers even found themselves in the water whilst racing in the morning — leaving the action to some of the heavier — and larger — boats, particularly in the afternoon session

Despite the carnage, the collateral damage, and the weather it was all good fun and, no doubt, one regatta that will continue to be talked about for a while!

It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for us to head “around the grounds”

Four teams - aside from the 1sts - played on the main oval at Riverview on Saturday — 2nds, 3rd, 4ths, and the 16A’s — meaning we had plenty of opportunity to snag a photo or two

So today a couple that I liked best from each of those games — a few of which tickled my warped sense of humour as well

After last week’s heroics expectations were high

After last week’s heroics expectations were high ahead of the trip to Riverview but, unfortunately, it was never meant to be

Despite giving it everything, on this occasion it wasn’t enough — Iggys being too strong for Scots, winning 43 24

After two rounds only King’s and St Ignatius’ remain undefeated (they meet in Round 3) — although Joey’s again drew, this time with Shore (whom Scots play next week)

It’s off to Lane Cove tomorrow where Scots will do battle with Riverview in Round 2 of the 2023 GPS Rugby season

Tomorrow’s weather sounds like it should be perfect for an enjoyable Saturday afternoon at the rugger — a far cry from last year when the equivalent game was played in conditions that could only be described as appalling — so expect a large, vocal crowd to add to the occasion

To help get you in the right frame of mind for the big game today’s post highlights some action from recent battles between the two schools

Time to finish reporting on the activities from last weekend with a “best of the rest” post

Problem is that Instagram only allows one to post a maximum of 10 images at any time — which means some weeks we never get to push out all those that we would like

Another reason to head to the website and/or Schoolbox I guess

We move away from the rugby pitch and head across to the volleyball courts where Round 2 of that GPS competition took place against Sydney Grammar

And if you think rugby can be exciting and seriously competitive the only difference between that and volleyball seemed to be the lack of helmets and mouthguards being worn

Both Scots teams prevailed on the day — the 1sts in a gripping four setter — and are now one of only two undefeated sides in their respective groups

Today we uploaded all images from those two volleyball matches — along with our haul from the rugby — to the website; you will find them in the usual place

It’s Tuesday which means it’s time to go “Around the Grounds”! (metaphorically speaking, that is, given all the matches were played on the same ground)

A collection of images today from all the other rugby matches we covered on Saturday afternoon — 2nd XV, 3rd XV and the U16A’s — against Joey’s

And keep an eye on Schoolbox as both the rugby and volleyball images have been sent through which should mean they will make an appearance on the appropriate pages soon — if they haven’t already

Unlike last week when a trip to Melbourne got in the way, good progress has been made in ploughing through the images from Saturday’s assortment of rugby and volleyball matches

And, as I do, I am reminded of how exciting the 1st XV match was. But that is now in the rear view mirror and it’s time to focus on what comes next — a road trip to Lane Cove where Riverview awaits

I hope to have all images cleaned, polished and out in the wild at some point tomorrow; watch these pages for an update
