I hadn’t been to Honolulu in quite a while and was surprised by how Asian it had become. It has always been a haven for Japanese tourists but now seemed to be a mecca for travellers from all parts of Asia. Given what was going on in Washington I had thought it might be an interesting time to be visiting the US again, but what really stood out — particularly when comparing it to when we visited New England last October — was how little the locals seemed concerned about what was happening politically and what that may mean for their country. Maybe it is now more part of Asia than it is of the US?
