On visiting Lord Howe Island David Attenborough proclaimed it is “so extraordinary it is almost unbelievable…few islands, surely, can be so accessible, so remarkable, yet so unspoilt.” What a great advertisement! Not easy to get to as flights are both irregular and subject to very strict weight requirements — there is also a limit as to how many tourists can be on the island at the one time but if you are organised enough to plan well ahead do so. And, whilst not for the faint hearted or infirm, make sure to take the guided walk up Mt Gower — extremely frightening and stunning at the same time
